Dyslexia Association of Ireland
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland (formerly ACLD) aims to promote the understanding, treatment and prevention of the problems associated with dyslexia, a specific learning disability. The association lobbies for appropriate services for people with dyslexia. It provides a free information service to the public. Other services offered include: psycho-educational assessment of children and adults, group and individual specialised tuition, teachers' in-service courses, summer schools, speakers for schools and parents groups. DAI currently has 33 branches nationwide.

Formed in 1972, the Dyslexia Association of Ireland lobbies for the provision of appropriate services by the state to all people with dyslexia. It also aims to promote the understanding, treatment and prevention of the problems associated with dyslexia, a specific learning disability.
Services
The Dyslexia Association of Ireland also provides:
- A free information service to the public – post, telephone, email, website and even a drop-in service at our Dublin office. Information is also provided at local level by volunteers at each of our 33 branches.
- Psycho-educational assessment of children and adults. The Association accepts referrals from parents, teachers, doctors and psychologists, and will arrange testing for anyone with queried dyslexia. Reduced rates are available to financially disadvantaged families.
- Group and individual tuition to children and adults. Specialised help is offered to pupils aged 7-18 in our 33 branches and workshops nationwide.
- The Association maintains a countrywide list of specialist teachers/tutors who are willing to give private one-to-one tuition to people with dyslexia. This list is only available to our members.
- Summer Schools. Non-residential summer schools are held each July offering language and mathematical tuition.
- The association also sponsors an innovative full-time course for unemployed adults with dyslexia – the Career Paths Course for Adults. This course is administered by FÁS. An evening class is also run for adults at the Career Paths Centre.
- In-service courses for teachers. DAI offers in-service courses for qualified teachers on many aspects of SLD/Dyslexia. Courses are also offered on request to adult literacy tutors, SNAs, and tutors in third level and further education.
- Speakers to schools and parent groups. The Association also offers talks for parents on how to help and support dyslexic children.
- Dyslexia Awareness training for companies, on request.
- The association provides training and support to our network of branches and workshops nationwide to ensure best practice.
- The Association is also actively involved in fundraising to enable the provision of subsidised services to those individuals and families facing financial disadvantage.
- Seminars on relevant topics.
- An Annual Conference and AGM is held each year in April, and a major European Conference is held usually once every 3-4 years.
- The Association is an active member of the Spectrum Alliance which raises awareness of hidden disabilities (dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD/ADHD and Asperger Syndrome).
